Scala del 'Bovolo'

Built in 1499, probably by Giovanni Candi.
Early Renaissance with Venetian- Byzantine building techniques.
Owes its name to the Venetian word "bovolo" that means snail shell.
It was commissioned by Pietro Contarini to decorated the internal façade of Palazzo di S.Paternian (today campo Manin).
When you go up the stairs you can still see the remains of frescos on the façade that go back to the fifteenth century.
At the top there is a loggia covered by a cupola offering you a beautiful panorama.
Today it belongs to'I.R.E. -Istituzione di Ricovero e di Educazione.
The "Scala" is temporary closed for restauration.
