ALA NAPOLEONICA (The Napoleonic Wing) Is situated on the short side of Piazza S.Marco, opposite the Basilica. Construction began in 1810 according to Napoleon's wishes. He wanted a new wing of the Royal Palace (the Procuratie Nuove) to have a Ball room. Giuseppe SOLI was in charge of the construction which included the demolition of the chiesa di S.Giminiano, the façade of which had been reconstructed on a design by Sansovino. Today, the majestic staircase is the entrance to the Museo Civico Correr and the Museo Archeologico.
