The
first edition took place in 1999 but Venezia Suona has already
become an important event in the city.
From the early afternoon to the late evening it is possible to hear
choirs, bands, groups, music schools in every corner of the city.
In 2000 there were already more than 4000 musicians.
It
was founded by the Venetian jazz player, Giannantonio De Vincenzo,
who wanted to transform Venice - the only city in the world without
acoustic pollution - into a single harmonious loud speaker.
At the end of the kermess, all the musicians take part in a group
performance that lasts around seven minutes with music composed
by De Vincenzo himself and led by coloured lights (4 colours for
the same number of notes) projected into the sky form the bell tower
of S.Marco and the Comunal Car Park at Piazzale Roma.
