PREMIO LETTERARIO CAMPIELLO
(September - in the courtyard of Palazzo Ducale)
Founded by the Associazioni degli Industriali del Veneto (Association
of Industrialists in the Veneto) in 1962.
Today it is one of the most prestigious literary prizes in Italy.
Only narrative works that are being published for the first time
may participate.
A non-specialist jury made up of 300 readers agrees upon the winner
after the five best works have been selected by a jury composed
of specialists and critics.
The "Campiello" has awarded prizes to some of the greatest representatives
of literature in the twentieth century: Primo Levi with "La Tregua"(1963)
and "Se non ora quando?"(1982), Carlo Sgorlon with "Il trono di
legno"(1973) and"La conchiglia di Anataj"(1983), Ignazio Silone
with "L'avventura di un povero cristiano"(1968), Mario Soldati with
"L'attore"(1970), Dacia Maraini with "La lunga vita di Marianna
Ucrìa"(1990), Antonio Tabucchi with "Sostiene Pereira" (1994).
