S. MARIA GLORIOSA DEI FRARI (Frari = Lesser friars)

Founded in 1338

rebuilt in 1443

Façade is late Gothic style divided into three parts by pilasters with central rose window and two side windows.

Curved crowning with three tabernacles.

Venetian-Gothic doorway with statues by A. Vittoria (Il Redentore in the centre) and B.Bon (Madonna and St. Francis)

The bell tower is the second highest in Venice after S. Marco (J. Celega and son)

Latin cross plan with central nave and two aisles and T-shaped transept and six chapels to the sides of the high altar.

Pointed-arch ceiling with cross vaulting with wooden "tie-beams" to link the 12 pillars.
