PONTE DI RIALTO

Antonio da Ponte - 1591

The most famous bridge in Venice, until 1854 it was the only one to cross the Canal Grande.
It has a single arch with a span of 28 m. and a width of 22 m.
It is divided into three ramps with 2 rows of shops joining at the top by the same number of archways.
The foundations are on larch boards and 12,000 elm piles.
It replaced the previous wooden drawbridge.
